Bright Pink’s Assess Your Risk quiz

Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, I’ve partnered with Bright Pink, a national non-profit organization uniquely focused on prevention and early detection to help women learn their risk for breast and ovarian cancer. I’ve shared how I’ve been personally affected by cancer a few times. My mother went to Heaven in 2013 just 8 months after her diagnosis. I cannot help but to wonder what her life would have been like if we had of known sooner. This is why the work that Bright Pink is doing is so necessary and near and dear to my heart. Their flagship program Assess Your Risk has helped more than one million women know and manage their breast and ovarian cancer risk proactively since launching in 2013.

How does it work?

Assess Your Risk is a free digital quiz that only takes 5 minutes. It’s designed to be both interactive and easy-to-use and can have a lifesaving impact. This year, Bright Pink is optimizing the Assess Your Risk tool to provide an enhanced user experience and more personalized risk management recommendations. With a focus on health rather than cancer, Bright Pink inspires women to make behavior changes that can greatly improve their lives.

My results!

I was relieved when I saw that average rating but also alarmed at my BMI. Being overweight increases your chances for everything. I’ve got some work to do but we obviously know that. I didn’t know much about my family history so it’s reminding me of the conversations I need to have over Thanksgiving dinner this year.

The numbers don’t lie. Breast cancer is the second-most common cancer in women, according to the National Cancer Institute. In 2017, breast cancer took the lives of more than 40,000 women, per the latest numbers from the ACS. The ACS also reports that Ovarian cancer ranks fifth in cancer deaths among women. It’s estimated that more than 22,000 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2018, and more than 14,000 of them will die from it.
