Most women search stores (and their closets) high and low in pursuit of the “perfect” outfit. I am one of those women! But you beauties know that there are other important factors that go into guaranteeing that your look is “fresh to death”.
Beyond selecting the right garments for your body type (which is super important), there are a few steps you must think about before you get dressed.
HYGIENE! Yes, hygiene! While some people might say, “Everyone knows this,” I beg to differ. I have met my share of funk, bad breath and stinky hair on a well-dressed diva. Not everyone has the same hygiene practices but that is no reason to offend with funk! You want to talk about killing the vibe…FUNK IS A SERIAL KILLER! No one wants to smell your unpleasant odors no matter how cute you are, intelligent you may be or what you are wearing. There, I said it!
Most women look amazing with or without makeup. However, if you are going to wear makeup please make sure that you are capable of creating a nice clean look. There are too many women who took their look from WOW to WTF; all because they applied too much makeup, used the wrong colors or lacked technique. With all the videos and tutorials online, you may not be able to create a Beatface Honey look but you can avoid resembling Homie The Clown.
Listen, a good bra will change any girl’s life! I meet so many women who really don’t know their bra size much less what bra should be worn with what attire. It disturbs my spirit to see sagging boobs, uneven cleavage, untamed back fat and three breasts on one woman. When picking a bra, these are some things to remember:
If your boobs aren’t nice and perky, don’t go ANYWHERE without a bra. Period.
If your dress is strapless, get a strapless bra (a tube top with bra straps is so tacky).
Your entire breast and side boob should fit into any bra you wear. If it doesn’t, it isn’t your size).
Underwire bras create fuller looking breasts (great for saggy boobs).
The style of the top should determine the style of the bra you wear (low cut top, plunge bra).
Support, support, support! Find a bra that is supportive of everything, back and shoulders included (even if they sag without your bra, boobs should sit up).
Just like bras, panties and girdles are very important. There is nothing worse than a woman in form-fitting clothing wearing a pair of B.A.D. (big ass drawers). Well, except a woman with a gut that doesn’t see the need for a panty girdle. In the event that you are not informed on the proper etiquette for undergarments here are some things to remember:
All thongs are not created equal. If you have a pouch or a full stomach, just say no to a thong.
If you have a top or bottom stomach bulge, you need a panty girdle.
If you wear a corset or waist trainer under your clothes, wear another supporting garment over it to assure that the boning and clasps aren’t visible through your clothes.
Make sure that your undergarment is a little shorter than your clothing (in the event that clothes begin to rise when you move).
Accessorize, like your life depends on it! I mean it. Accessorize like you are going to meet the King! With the right accents and statement pieces you can transform the most basic looks into something amazing. Dare to be different, bold and colorful; accessories have a way of adding extra personality to your look. Bags, shoes, jewelry, and head wear should all be ON FLEEK (UGH, I hate that phrase)!!!
Now that all of that is out of the way–go get dress, go out and take over the world! We are waiting…
