Hey readies,
I’ve been asked a few times what kind of foundation I use on my face, do I have a cleansing regime, how long does it take to apply my face, etc-etc-etc.
So I decided to do a quick post about my makeup, skin, and how I don’t take care of it as well as I should.
1. What foundation do I use on my face & what are my favorite products?
Generally my face is no fuss and I really have to thank my good genes. They have done me well for 35 years and allowed me to live a pimple free life. But there are a few products I cannot live without.
Laura Mercier Mineral Pressed Powder & Loose Setting Powder. Ever since I reviewed her products last year I have been hooked (read that post here). Literally addicted. My Maybelline Falsies mascara is another must. With or without my foundation. It’s cheap and leaves my lashes feeling like I’ve got on those really expensive strips from the MAC store.

After cleaning out my beauty swag bag I found a blush that rocks my world. Milani baked blush is like heaven to me and it’s a drugstore find. AND L’Oreal makes the BEST eyeliner. I love it because of it’s no mess mechanical adjusting pen. I hate sharpening pencils. And of course a good red lip to spice up any look. I am now crushing on MAC Russian Red.
I have gotten it down to a 5 minute process. Video coming soon I promise.
2. What do I use to remove makeup and clean my face?
I probably shouldn’t tell you guys any of this. And hopefully after my next sentences you won’t judge me. I use to be a Noxema girl. For so long my mother used it and that’s what I used. I remember having a separate wash cloth that was white. We’d use that along with warm water to rinse our faces. Then we’d sleep in that stinky white cream all night. I’m not the only one right?
Well I kept that routine .. kinda.
To remove my makeup I use regular ole facial wipes from Walgreen’s. Whatever ones are on sale. I cleanse my face with a white wash cloth until the makeup is gone. Usually when I rinse the cloth out and no makeup residue is showing. I have a gazillion white wash cloths, obvi!
3. Do I use any anti-aging creams?
Wow. You would think that I was super old or something. I tell people my age and they automatically round it up to 40. Not that that’s even old, but.. umm.. yeah.
So the answer is no. I’ve been letting my skin age on it’s own all my life. I’ve noticed my pores are a little bit bigger than before, and I have always had huge bags under my eyes, and because I laugh and smile daily I’ve inherited those smile lines.
But it’s all a part of me. From my bags under my eyes, to my huge smile, and my grey hair. I’ve embraced it and so should you.
I love hearing from other empowering women. Share with me something that makes your beauty unique?!

I’m even more old school than you. I use vaseline to remove my makeup. I slather it all on, wipe it off with a tissue and then wash with either dove or the body shop tea tree face wash til clean. I then moisturize with a smaller amount of vaseline.
I have started washing in the morning with a clarisonic since I am older (48) and feel I needed a scrub of some sort and wanted one as gentle as possible. I also color my hair. I’ve been coloring for a while, but i started coloring because I didn’t care for how my gray came in. It was patchy and unflattering to me. So now I color it read, but I’ve been toying with going for a more purple-y red.
That’s it, not anit-ageing cremes. I just try to keep my skin clean and well hydrated.

I love your blog but it was the grey hair that drew me – I think it’s beautiful. I’m “a bit” older than you (cough cough) and I wear my greys proudly even though people often “suggest” that I “do something about.” I AM – I’M WEARING IT! lol! My goal is to have a huge grey afro and prance around intimidating the children. Anyway, love your blog and the makeup post was nice. I did that Noxema thing too! You’re a beautiful woman, thanks for sharing.

[...] 1. DRINK WATER. This is a no brainer. People ask me how I keep my skin smooth and clear. One, its just my genetics. Sorry! Even the adult acne my mother thinks she has is just one darn pimple. Two, I don’t put too much fuss in it. I feel like some people do all this skincare, try a trillion products and still end up with acne. Peep my routine here. [...]
