Now that the hype surrounding Instagram has kinda descended, let’s chat a bit about the big tech debate of this month .. shall we.

THE QUESTION: Should Instagram be available to just iPhone users? Guess what readies, Instagram doesn’t give a hoot what we think and finally launched Instagram for Android. The popular photo app nailed more than 1 MILLION downloads on their Android debut according to CNET and is currently being brought out for billions by social media giant — Facebook.

In case you’re not one of the cool kids and missed out on the tech memo, Instagram is a photo sharing application turned perfect mix of Twitter and Facebook. You just snap a camera phone picture, transform it with one of their many super cute darn-near-professional-camera-type photo filters (Early Bird is my favorite), and then wait for comments and likes.

Since I am #TeamAndroid, when news broke months ago that Instagram would be available for Android I promptly put a stop to all my talks about getting an iPhone. I already had an Instagram account from using the app via my iPod. So when I finally logged on, I noticed I already jumped up to over 300 followers. I took a scroll down my timeline and I found this … (user names have been blacked out because I’m not the rude!)

And this …

And this too …

Really guys?

I’ll admit, in the name of fun and games this BS is effing hilarious. But the conversation has raised an eyebrow for me. Culturally speaking do we just prefer segregation. I do realize that a few of you are probably reading this and thinking to yourself, OMG it’s not that deep Ty! But perhaps those folks who didn’t let my grandmother drink from the same water fountain may have thought it was no big deal either. It’s just preference right?

Well .. maybe .. that was a stretch too, but seriously. The whole comparison to a gated iPhone community vs. Section 8 is a bit disheartening to me. What does this really say about how we view ourselves? Has social status officially leaked over to technology? Or has this always been the case and since I am #TeamAndroid, aka #TeamSection8, I’ve been in denial.

But here’s the better question, do all you iPhone users live in a gated community, IN REAL LIFE. Chime in (in my comments section below of course) and let me know your thoughts!!
