3 Ways You Can Avoid Buying The Same Makeup Twice (Or Five Times)

3 ways to stop buying the same makeup
Hey beauties! Valerie here.

So…Houston, we have a problem! I am almost embarrassed to admit this, but I am sure I’m not alone (please back me up on this fellow makeup junkies)!

BEAUTY VIDEOS

I have way too many makeup products with the same exact color. I’ll use my lipsticks as an example. In the burgundy/wine family alone, I have 9. Now, I know all the brands are different, but you guys, this is essentially the exact same color hitting my lips. I am wayyyy too embarrassed to show the pink lipsticks and nail polishes.

I go into the cosmetics aisles thinking that I don’t have a particular color or maybe even being a little more drawn to certain colors that I don’t even realize that I have 9 others just like it at home – all in heavy rotation too! And in my head, I swear I’m picking out something new. There has to be a name for this disease.

After my latest, “Oh wait, I already have this color” moment, I was kind of irritated with myself. I soon realized that it was because I simply did not have my makeup organized. I have lipsticks in every purse, completely forgotten. I finally pulled everything out and took a serious inventory and that’s when I knew that it was not just the burgundies *shaking my head*.

Here are 3 ways to save money by not mistakenly buying duplicate beauty products (unless you absolutely want to and I am not judging you!):

Take Inventory.

As mentioned above, pull everything out of those bags, purses, cars, bathrooms, closets, etc. in order to get a good look at what you have. Note: Lipsticks and lip pencils normally have a shelf life of 2 years before needing to be replaced. I’ll do a separate post about that later.

Seriously! How are you storing your makeup? I went into an inexpensive store and racked up on plastic makeup storage containers. This 3-drawer set cost me $4.00. Win! I plan to use this one just for lipsticks – all sorted by color. I actually need to get a couple more of these.

Sort Away.

This will give you a clear visual of what colors and brands you actually have, helping you to save money on duplicates. It also gives you a better idea of what colors are lacking and which items may need to soon be replaced.

I know this seems pretty simple, but it’s a great start for getting organized and saving some coins. My makeup stash is growing more and more and I need to be able to keep up. Some of us also have subscription beauty boxes and have been getting new things every month that need a “home”.

Take inventory, get organizational tools and sort your stash. Easy peasy!

One thing some of my friends who buy tons of makeup do is they save pictures of their makeup on their phone– usually clustered by product and color category. That way they can just check before they buy! They have an inventory folder on their phones’ photo albums so they don’t have to scroll forever.

I usually get rid of makeup that I don’t need, I use a few tricks I know. I use 2 foundations with different colors to mix them up and create a color I need, I only buy light and dark foundations and then I just mix it on my hand to get the shade that suits my skin, you can also use eyeshadow as a lipstick, and that’s what I do as well, you just mix up an eyeshadow and put it on your lips. after applying a light shade lipstick you can cover it up with a darker eyeshadow to create a totally different look. This way you can stop stocking up tons of makeup products.

    Hope this helps,
