Today is the 40th anniversary of Title IX and as a woman I have so much to be thankful for. As a kid my parents allowed me to do everything. So much so that I was all over the place. I played the piano, the clarinet, the flute, and a sang in the choir. I was an alto and I can still read music and carry a tune in the shower!

me in the 3rd grade (I think). I remember this being my favorite blazer!

When I got tired of music I ran track & field for 10 seconds. The proved to be harder than I ever imagined so I tried my hand at volleyball, and basketball until I noticed the girls staring at my boobs (awkward). I was even on the debate team, and won a few spelling bee’s.

me — cheesing per usual.

I got bored with all of those things including sports and I soon fell in love with writing. But my parents gave me the options and I am thankful I had them. So I ask myself why is Title IX important and style relevant to me? I mean I am just a spectator of sports so why does it matter if women play.

It’s the opportunity to be treated as a human being. Whether I am black, white, girl, boy, lesbian, or whatever — we all should be able to compete in a healthy environment against our peers. For this I am grateful for Title IX! Happy Anniversary XOXO.
