This week for our Friend Friday post we’re discussing our hair. And how we care for it.
Ahhh, my grey tresses! Oh how I love thee but you are not loving me back right now. Although I get many compliments on the color and style on most days I am not quite as happy with my hair as I feel I should be. Recently I did I post sharing my hair woos.
I am transitioning to a chemical free mane and I will say it’s harder than I expected. It’s May and I have resisted the urge so far. Wish me luck.
Hair it is ..
[How often do you get your hair cut?] That should say how often should I cut my hair. I am way over due for a trim/cut. Technically I should be getting it trimmed and styled at least every 2 or 3 weeks. My hair grows extremely fast.
[Do you go to the same stylist each time, try someone new, go to the cheap hair cutting chains or live it up in a salon?] Before my budget went a stray and my wallet decided it didn’t like holding money anymore I did have one stylist that cut and treated my grey tresses. Then the recession hit and I could no longer afford that $75-100 appointment. Now I am in between stylist and for the most part I manage on my own.
[Do you color your hair? How often? What’s your natural color?] I use to color my hair before I was forced to be ok with being young and grey. I’ve been red, brown, blondish, and black all before I realized it was seriously damaging my hair and my wallet. So I learned that my grey wasn’t so bad and is now a topic of small talk when I meet new folks.
[The one thing you always do to keep your hair looking great is:] Every other wash I use a color correcting shampoo and conditioner for my grey. Often my grey may turn brown or green-ish due to heat from styling appliances. (I recently spoke with Johnny Lavoy, L’Oreal Hair Stylist & Expert, who suggested an amazeballs recipe – I will share in a future post) Now that summer is here, I try to tie my hair up at night so that I don’t sweat my hair out and end up having to curl it over and over putting more heat on it. Tonight is the first night I am trying double strand twists. I feel like Cicely from the Color Purple, le sigh!
[What hair trend do you love and wish you could rock?] I am hoping that I can conquer this natural giant and find my true locks. Wish me luck. I want a big Jill Scott-ish afro in black and grey, LOL.
Recently changed your hair color, or tried a new style – chime in below by leaving a comment! XOXO

That picture is unrealistic. I am 50% grey. Maybe 60% LOL. But I tried twists last night. I need a good product to get my curls right. I also need a cut. I still have some perm left in my hair. Not sure if I am brave enough to cut it all off. Le sigh!
