3 Must-Read DIY Beauty Tips My Mom Swore By

The older I get the more interested in beauty I am. My mother was my beauty icon. I gaze at her pictures and remember how beautiful she was!

I remember sitting on her bed watching her get ready for dates with my dad. She would literally have to put me out. My mom notoriously used Noxema, and ALWAYS rolled her hair before going to bed. I’ll admit that I am not always that diligent. So it’s obvious that I have loads of ole school tips and tricks that I still swear by.

But there’s three that I still do to this day!

1. Brightening your grey hair with hydrogen peroxide.

One of the questions that I am always asked. How do you keep your grey hair so shiny?

For dull yellow greys, mix equal parts of 3% hydrogen peroxide, water and your favorite conditioner in a spray bottle. Spray clean, damp, non-conditioned hair with the mixture. Comb through the hair with a wide-toothed comb or pick. Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing. Repeat once a week to prevent buildup.

You COULD buy a clarifying shampoo but, meh! I prefer the natural route.

2. Diaper Rash Cream for Cracked elbows and feet.

So my right elbow is always dry and brittle, especially in the winter, and sometimes feels like it could cut a brick (luckily I am pretty, right). I use diaper rash cream to heal cracked ashy elbows and feet. YES! Diaper rash. The anti-inflammatory ingredients will help hydrate and repair the skin.

3. Long celebrity-like nails

The second popular question I get is are my nails real. YEP! I treat my nails just as good as I treat my hair. Here’s what works for me!

Cut a lemon in two parts and dip your fingers inside, so that all your nails enter the middle of the lemon. Let it sit for 10 minutes, this will strengthen your nails and prevent their fragility and chipping.

Voila! Now you’re beautiful. So I only gave up three of my goodies, share in the comments below your natural beauty tips.

My grandmother taught me the diaper rash cream trick too, but twice a week I brush my teeth with pure baking soda and rinse my hair with apple cider vinegar for shinier locks.

smoothing Vaseline over feet and heels then putting on socks help keep your feet nice and soft- great time to do during the winter months so that your feet will be ready just in time for heels and sandals for the summer !!!!!!
