soul-train-awards-burlington-red-carpet-6

HOW DID I GET HERE? In case you missed it, I did a commercial for Burlington that aired during the Soul Train Awards (skip forward to see that video). For clarity, I want you to know that I pinch myself often and hard. On most days I’m very in awe of my journey and where it has taken me. View Full Post

Storytime: So one night I was up on my phone Facebook surfing until the sandman attacked my eyelids. It must have been around midnight or maybe later. My good good girlfriend, Danielle Young (if you follow me on social than you already know her) posted that she had just found one of those flight deals and bought had bought herself a roundtrip ticket to Belize.

Guess how much said ticket was? View Full Post

Mike Khari Me Christmas

Me, my son and Leeroy.

So! Did you know that I am a mother? Yep! My son will be 21 years old this August, SHAT! (yes that also means that I am 39 and maybe unicorns have blessed my skin care regimen #MelaninRocks).

Point is, I’ve done this. This meaning motherhood. I’ve got lots of stories. From funny, to sad to “OMG he did what?” and yet I am still learning. There was this time that I left my son in his crib for 15 minutes and when I returned there was doo doo all over my walls resembling Picasso’s first paintings. Lessons learned. But I also learned that I didn’t really have to “whip my son’s ass” (except that time I knocked the wind out of him with my little ole fist) because he was more hurt by the fact that he has disappointed me and his grandma. Lessons learned.

That’s the thing about motherhood. It’s just one long ass repeated lessons learned moment. Which is just one of the reasons you should appreciate mothers. We are innovators. We are chefs. We are doctors. And therapists. We are “any and everything” you need us to be at any moment you ask us to be said “whatever you need us to be”!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I sat down with Elite Daily for a little comic relief and shared a few nuances no mother likes to admit. Check it out. You’re welcome for your daily laugh today! View Full Post

the jungle book

I remember watching The Jungle Book as a child. Back then, I wasn’t aware of the life lessons that existed in this movie. It was all about the “bear necessities”. Tell me you don’t know that song?!

Fast forward to today and the movie represents so much more. Thanks to Disney I was able to see an advanced screening of the movie. Because of today’s technology this movie is by far the most visually appealing movie that I’ve ever experienced. And I truly hate 3D (like split pea soup, yuck!). But this was more than that. It’s truly an experience. From the state of the art sound, to the moments were you low-key believe that you and Mowgli are on this 3 hour excursion together.

If you haven’t seen this movie, you and I can’t be real friends. You need to catch up. In the meantime, check out this dinner conversation we (a bunch of really fabulous writers and bloggers) had after our movie experience.  View Full Post
