The BET Awards are coming up and it’s no surprise that we’ll all come together in Twitterland to watch and tweet. This may be one of the most anticipated award shows for #BlackTwitter since #OscarsSoWhite and that awful interesting Prince tribute on the Billboard Music Awards. View Full Post

WHM Women Who Have Changed The World

As women, we exude power! We don’t need men (although who’s gonna change those lightbulbs), the media or this society to validate us. However, one thing we do require is representation and recognition.

We’ve made huge strides in the fields of politics, science, art and entertainment. But one thing we want to emphasize is that the only reason we are at this point today is because of the women who have come before us.

Thank God Congress gave us our own month and here at GIG, we’re taking it and running with it!  From Rosa Parks to Michelle Obama, we are celebrating the great contributions women have made to American culture. We’re grateful for the women who had their firsts so that we didn’t have our lasts. We’re grateful for their audaciousness because it fed us the potion of resilience. And hey, we’re grateful for all of you women who are killing it in the game.

There are too many women in our nation’s history to count, but we’re sharing a good chunk that you may or may not know of! Nothing wrong with expanding our minds and supporting women who are doing and have done great things.

Erykah Badu kicked the Neo-Soul music doors wide open snatching the hinges off in 1996 and got things popping like fish grease. Aside from the fact that Erykah Badu has a thing for musicians and they clearly have a thing for her, we’ve had the pleasure of learning many things about the Queen of Neo-Soul. Her willingness to share her truth in a raw and uncut fashion is yet another reason why we can’t get enough of Erykah Badu, a.k.a Fat Belly Bella, a.ka. DJ Low-Down Loretta Brown…we could keep going!  View Full Post

Over the last few months, Amber Rose has been speaking out candidly about slut-shaming on Twitter and other social media outlets. Since Amber started this campaign, there has been an outpouring of support and an equal amount of opposition for the movement.

It’s a conversation that certainly needs to be had but I think that some people are too caught up in the word slut and their views of Amber. They don’t know that the Slutwalk has its own history which is a vital part of women’s history that didn’t begin with Amber at all.

If you beauties are anything like me, you live for some good reality television. Some people see it as ratchet but to me it’s life. It gives us a peek inside the lives of some of our favorite celebrities and proves that they are just like us.

One of my absolute favorite reality shows, is L.A Hair! Honey, not only are they notorious for a good slay; Kim Kimble and the crew have mastered reading and shade throwing.
