The internet bees are buzzing about celebrity hair stylist, Nadia Vassell. Her work has been featured in major publications including Essence, Black Sophisticate, XXL Eye Candy, Heart and Soul, Smooth, and Uptown Magazine. Recently she’s been responsible for taming those gorgeous locks of actress Tika Sumpter. I got the opportunity to pick Nadia’s brain a bit about her favorite styling products, her spring 2012 trend forecast, and what’s next on her plate.

On her industry break:

My industry break was working with a celebrity hair stylist named Tippi Shorter. Becoming  her assistant was amazing, learning the ins and outs of the hair world. Tippi exposed me to a prestigious world of celebrity clients and I worked hard from there.

On the rewards of being a salon owner and the pitfalls to avoid:

Being a salon owner has been a wonderful journey but a learning experience. Keeping your business at a high-end standard is one of my main focuses. I want people to understand my salon is a very professional salon. I care about my clients and their hair. I’m not a round-the-way stylist. I take pride in all my work. The reward of being a salon owner is the recognition in the media and running your business the way you want to.

Her most coveted products:

Mizani Scalp Care Conditioner, BB shine spray, Mizani Gloss Veil, Brazillian Blowout Mask, Bed Head Stick for Cool People.

On the common mistakes women make with their hair:

Women giving themselves relaxers at home and using color from the box is as bad as it gets! Visit the Nadia Vassell Salon immediately!

Her Favorite Look she’s created:

I love beachy waves because it’s easy breezy and has a sexy vibe about the look.

On what’s hot for Spring 2012:

The baliage and ombré  look are the newest color trends. They’re very naturally highlighted looks that give the hair pizzazz and assist in contouring the face frame. Women are loving the new look.

Her bio in 3 word using the same first letter:

Creative, Confident, Cute

On what’s next for her:

Expanding my salon tea, creating new ideas for my salon, and reaching out to young women who want to be inspired and motivated to have a successful future.
